There are over 100 sites in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dc.esri.com\/showcase\">ArcGIS Open Data site gallery<\/a>\u00a0for you to explore! \u00a0<\/em><em>The\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/tag\/site-of-the-week\/\">Site of the Week<\/a><em>\u00a0is a series that profiles one ArcGIS Open Data site each week.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a title=\"City of Raleigh\" href=\"http:\/\/data.ral.opendata.arcgis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>January 5, 2014: City of Raleigh, North Carolina<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Happy New Year! We&#8217;re kicking off 2015 with a simple site that does a great job at integrating other data resources and applications on the main page. The <a href=\"http:\/\/data.ral.opendata.arcgis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">City of Raleigh<\/a>\u00a0has created their Open Data site as a component in the Open Raleigh Initiative. The city went for the hybrid design approach with some simple CSS in their header and a few widgets in the body to create an informative site with many resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2014\/12\/raleigh-home.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-44661\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2014\/12\/raleigh-home.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"771\" height=\"953\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Initially, users are drawn to the eight data categories with icons used from the open-source icon package <a href=\"http:\/\/icons8.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Icons8<\/a>. Beyond the 100+ authoritative datasets available for access and download, Raleigh offers a lot of information for users to explore. The City of Raleigh is an active partner in the open government community and gives their users more information on how they can be involved, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinempa.unc.edu\/a-citizens-guide-to-open-government-e-government-and-government-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\">Citizen Guide to Open Government<\/a>. Raleigh also points to their <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.raleighnc.gov\/arcgis\/rest\/services\">Rest services directory<\/a>, from where all the data on their site is pulled.<\/p>\n<p>Users can access several applications built by the City of Raleigh to help citizens learn more about their community and aid interaction with geographic data. <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.raleighnc.gov\/imaps\/\" target=\"_blank\">City of Raleigh and Wake County iMaps<\/a> provides users an interface where they can display and configure data found on the site. Additionally, the <a href=\"http:\/\/mapstest.raleighnc.gov\/appsdirectory\/apps.html\" target=\"_blank\">GIS Apps Directory<\/a> has a bunch of apps available for use to help citizens access information and make decisions. We&#8217;re excited to see how the list of apps grows as the community continues to use and build with Raleigh\u2019s open data.<\/p>\n<p>Showing what\u2019s available in the world of open government and open data is a great way to illustrate what\u2019s possible when data is released to the public, and hopefully will inspire citizens and civic hackers to continue to build great things.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned for next week\u2019s Site of the Week.
