This past Tuesday, the discussion turned to their childhood home and the surrounding places they used to visit as children.\u00a0 They had grown up in Nairobi, Kenya, and vacationed often in Mombasa.\u00a0 As they were trying to describe the neighborhood they lived in and the beach they vacationed on, I suddenly had a thought\u2026why not zoom to those locations on my smartphone instead.\u00a0 \u00a0Sure enough, it was as easy as typing a location into my ArcGIS application, and I was able to share my screen with everyone at the table.<\/p>\n<p>That is probably the most basic usage for imagery, visualizing information.\u00a0 However, it is still amazing that you can zoom all the way around the world and view\u00a0high resolution imagery data,\u00a0while you are away from the office, sitting anywhere (including pizza restaurants) through a mobile device.\u00a0 You can have the whole world right on your phone.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48543\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48543\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Whole-World-on-your-Phone-Blog-Post-image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-48543 noIMGBackground\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Whole-World-on-your-Phone-Blog-Post-image-300x172.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nyali &amp; Mombosa Beach in Kenya<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I used the World Imagery Basemap to do this, and today I learned this is the number one requested Basemap from ArcGIS Online.\u00a0 In fact, it received almost 2.4 million requests in the month of March alone!\u00a0 I\u2019m sure some of those people are looking at their home, or using it to augment a story\u2026but I know the majority of you are using it to provide context for your work and probably layering additional data on top of it.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the World Imagery Basemap, there are lots of other Basemap, Imagery and Data collections available online\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 13.7142858505249px\">from Esri&#8217;s\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/features\/maps\/\" target=\"_blank\">Living Atlas of the World<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0the ArcGIS application on your phone and the ArcGIS platform. \u00a0So the next time you need a map, check out what is available from Esri and if it happens to be the World Imagery Basemap, you\u2019re in good company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
