href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/2016\/02\/18\/arcgis-10-4-is-here\/\">download<\/a>!\u00a0 For users of the Spatial Analyst extension, we have added five new tools for this release, and added some enhancements to several other tools\u00a0in\u00a0capabilities and performance.\u00a0 Please read on to find out more.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Distance toolset<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nWith the new <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/cost-connectivity.htm\">Cost Connectivity<\/a> tool you can generate a network of optimum paths connecting multiple areas.\u00a0 This has applications in many areas of planning and operations, such as wildlife management and resource harvesting.<\/p>\n<p>The cost distance tools (<a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/cost-allocation.htm\">Cost Allocation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/cost-back-link.htm\">Cost Back Link<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/cost-distance.htm\">Cost Distance<\/a>) and path distance tools (<a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/path-distance.htm\">Path Distance<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/path-distance-allocation.htm\">Path Distance Allocation<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/path-distance-back-link.htm\">Path Distance Back Link<\/a>) have been enhanced with four new parameters to give you more control over the impact of distance and the nature of the travelers.\u00a0 More specifically, with these enhancements you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Model different modes of travel from various sources, such as determining the area that can be searched for a lost hiker from two Search &amp; Rescue headquarters, where one can use ATVs while units from the other are only on foot.<\/li>\n<li>Account for different numbers of resources at different locations, such as the limitations for handling large structure fires in a city when there are 25 firefighters at one facility, 15 at a second, and 10 at a third.<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate response times to marshal resources before they can be deployed, such as the time it takes for a HazMat response team to assemble their gear and suit up before heading out to the site of a chemical spill.<\/li>\n<li>Make considerations for the accumulation of effort, such as where to space rest stops or campgrounds along a nature trail, accounting for the average amount of fatigue hikers will build.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Extraction toolset<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/extract-multi-values-to-points.htm\">Extract Multi Values to Points<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/extract-values-to-points.htm\">Extract Values to Points<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/sample.htm\">Sample<\/a> tools have been updated to better handle conditions when the locations being sampled are NoData cells for certain output formats.\u00a0 Because the shapefile and Info table formats do not have a concept of &lt;null&gt;, a value of 0 was returned in those cases.\u00a0 Now \u00a0a value of -9999 will be returned.<\/p>\n<p>For Extract Multi Values to Points and Sample, some performance optimizations have been made to allow for faster execution against larger point datasets and with more input rasters.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Segmentation and Classification toolset<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four new tools are available for this toolset in this release.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/create-accuracy-assessment-points.htm\">Create Accuracy Assessment Points<\/a> tool creates randomly sampled points to be used in post-classification accuracy assessment.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/update-accuracy-assessment-points.htm\">Update Accuracy Assessment Points<\/a> tool updates fields in the attribute table of a ground truth data to compare ground truth points to the classified image.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/compute-confusion-matrix.htm\">Compute Confusion Matrix<\/a> tool generates a kappa index, which is an overall assessment of the accuracy of the classification.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/desktop.arcgis.com\/en\/arcmap\/latest\/tools\/spatial-analyst-toolbox\/train-random-trees-classifier.htm\">Train Random Trees Classifier<\/a> tool employs a supervised, machine-learning classifier to generate an Esri classifier definition that is more resistant to overfitting than other classification techniques.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Final word<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Please give these new capabilities a try, and be sure to let us know how they work for
