The first release was in January, 2015.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Hundreds of developers, product engineers, and others like me at Esri who have been building ArcGIS Pro over the years are delighted to see it reach the 1.3 milestone. But what many of us truly measure ArcGIS Pro by is how well it helps GIS professionals like you model, analyze, and intelligently shape the world around us.<\/p>\n<p>The 1.3 release delivers several new capabilities to help you with your work. Here are some highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>KML layers<\/strong>\u2014View KML layers in Pro. If you need to do something else with a KML layer, such as perform an analysis, use KML To Layer, a geoprocessing tool that converts the data into feature classes and the symbology into a layer file.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/KmlLayer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65846\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/KmlLayer.png\" alt=\"KML layer\" width=\"477\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Geodatabase topology<\/strong>\u2014Create and edit features and then check whether the results break any topological rules\u2014rules defining spatial relationships\u2014which are preconfigured in the geodatabase that contains the new and edited features. If a feature breaks a rule, it is symbolized and recorded as an error. Geodatabase topology ensures quality geographic data is generated. <a title=\"Hands-on experience with geodatabase topologies ArcGIS Pro 1.3\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/?p=65991\" target=\"_blank\">Try it out&#8230;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GdbTopology1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65842\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/GdbTopology1.png\" alt=\"Geodatabase topology: Error Inspector\" width=\"595\" height=\"227\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Locate features<\/strong>\u2014You\u2019ve added a layer to your map, and the layer contains thousands or millions of features. Now you want to find the feature that has a specific ID value or name. With Locate Features, you can use the search box in the Locate pane to quickly find the right feature. <a title=\"Hands-on experience with Locate Features ArcGIS Pro 1.3\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/?p=65918\" target=\"_blank\">Try it out&#8230;<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LocateFeatures.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-65849\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2016\/07\/LocateFeatures.png\" alt=\"Locate features\" width=\"298\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Image Classification Wizard<\/strong>\u2014Let the wizard guide you through the multistage process of converting pixels from remotely sensed imagery, such as aerial photos, into classes. Unfortunately, this was preventing them from keeping up with the latest GIS technology. Understanding the following facts, however, made them eager to put ArcGIS Pro on their machines.<\/p>\n<p><em>Purchasing:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ArcGIS Pro is included in ArcGIS Desktop Maintenance\u2014it doesn\u2019t cost extra.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;line-height: 24px\"><em>Installing:<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You don\u2019t need ArcMap installed on your machine to install ArcGIS Pro.<\/li>\n<li>If ArcMap is installed, ArcGIS Pro will work on the same machine.<\/li>\n<li>ArcGIS Pro works next to any ArcMap version (10.2, 10.3, etc.). You don\u2019t need the latest version of ArcMap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;line-height: 24px\"><em>Licensing:<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The default licensing model is <a title=\"Named User licenses\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/named-user-licenses.htm\">Named User<\/a>, which means ArcGIS Pro gets its license through your ArcGIS Online account; however, there are <a title=\"Licensing ArcGIS Pro\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/licensing-arcgis-pro.htm\">other licensing options<\/a>\u00a0as well.<\/li>\n<li>You can <a title=\"Configure ArcGIS Pro licenses through Portal for ArcGIS\" href=\"http:\/\/server.arcgis.com\/en\/portal\/latest\/administer\/windows\/configure-arcgis-pro-licenses.htm\">license named users through Portal for ArcGIS<\/a> instead of ArcGIS Online.<\/li>\n<li>You can convert your Named User licenses to <a title=\"Concurrent Use licenses\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/concurrent-use-licenses.htm\">Concurrent Use licenses<\/a>, which means License Manager provides ArcGIS Pro licenses. These licenses are unique to ArcGIS Pro, so ArcGIS Pro will not use your ArcMap (i.e., Desktop) licenses.<\/li>\n<li>You can convert your Named User licenses to <a title=\"Single Use licenses\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/single-use-licenses.htm\">Single Use licenses<\/a>, which means the license is a locally stored file that can be used by one machine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More questions about ArcGIS Pro are available in the <a title=\"ArcGIS Pro FAQ\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/faq.htm\">ArcGIS Pro FAQ page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>System requirements<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re not sure whether ArcGIS Pro 1.3 will work on your machine, see <a title=\"ArcGIS Pro 1.3 system requirements\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/arcgis-pro-system-requirements.htm\">ArcGIS Pro 1.3 system requirements<\/a> for the complete requirements list. Some of the more commonly referenced requirements are listed below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operating system: Windows (64 bit) 7 SP1, 8, 8.1, or 10<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft .NET Framework: 4.6.1<\/li>\n<li>CPU speed: Quad core (recommended), 2x Hyper-threaded hexa core (optimal)<\/li>\n<li>Memory\/RAM: 8 GB (recommended), 16 GB (optimal)<\/li>\n<li>Disk space: 6 GB or higher<\/li>\n<li>Screen resolution: 1024&#215;768 or higher at normal size (96 dpi)<\/li>\n<li>Video\/Graphics adapter: DirectX 11 (OpenGL 3.2) compatible card with 2 GB RAM (recommended); \u00a0DirectX 11 (OpenGL 4.4) compatible card with 4 GB RAM (optimal). Be sure to install the latest driver.<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 or 11<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Download and install ArcGIS Pro 1.3<\/h2>\n<p>If you and your machine are ready for 1.3, here is where to get it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Existing ArcGIS Pro users\u2014If you already have a previous version of ArcGIS Pro installed, you can upgrade to 1.3 through the software itself (Project tab &gt; About) or download it through <a title=\"My Esri\" href=\"https:\/\/accounts.esri.com\/?redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fmy.esri.com%2F\">My Esri<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>First-time ArcGIS Pro users who are current on ArcGIS Desktop Maintenance\u2014Download 1.3 through <a title=\"My Esri\" href=\"https:\/\/accounts.esri.com\/?redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fmy.esri.com%2F\">My Esri<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Others\u2014Sign up for an <a title=\"ArcGIS trial\" href=\"http:\/\/links.esri.com\/pro\/trial\">ArcGIS trial<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Learn to use ArcGIS Pro<\/h1>\n<p>If ArcGIS Pro is new to you, try the quick-start tutorials. I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/introducing-arcgis-pro.htm\">Introducing ArcGIS Pro<\/a> to get familiar with the software and its user interface. \u00a0Each tutorial focuses on a primary aspect of ArcGIS Pro, such as creating projects and symbolizing map layers, and states an estimated time to complete it, which varies between 10 and 45 minutes. Many have a one to three minute overview video, which shows the interaction described in the step-by-step instructions. New tutorials will be added in future updates.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Learn ArcGIS\" href=\"http:\/\/learn.arcgis.com\/en\/\">Esri\u2019s Learn site<\/a> provides several lessons that teach how to use ArcGIS Pro through real-world problems. In <a title=\"Get Started with ArcGIS Pro\" href=\"http:\/\/learn.arcgis.com\/en\/projects\/get-started-with-arcgis-pro\/\">Get Started with ArcGIS Pro<\/a>, you build 2D and 3D maps of Venice, Italy and quantify and visualize flood risk.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re familiar with ArcMap, but new to ArcGIS Pro, the <a title=\"For ArcMap users\" href=\"http:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/get-started\/migrate-to-arcgis-pro.htm\">For ArcMap Users help topic<\/a> is for you. It gives a brief introduction to what\u2019s different and points out where some common tools can be found in ArcGIS
