The best way to access them in ArcGIS Online is through the Esri owned\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?id=30de8da907d240a0bccd5ad3ff25ef4a\" target=\"_blank\">Vector Basemaps group<\/a>, which contains the latest set of web maps and tile layers. See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/2016\/12\/15\/whats-new-in-esri-vector-basemaps-december-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">this blog post<\/a>\u00a0for information related to this update.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>As part of the continued effort to release Esri Vector Tile Basemaps as a production version of maps on ArcGIS Online, we recently updated the Beta set of vector tiles used in the display of our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?id=30de8da907d240a0bccd5ad3ff25ef4a&amp;focus=layers&amp;sortField=modified&amp;sortOrder=desc\" target=\"_blank\">tile layers.<\/a>\u00a0 This data update enhanced the tile set across more than 60 community contributors to the <a href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/living-atlas\/contribute\/contribution-process.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Living Atlas of the World<\/a>. \u00a0Two of the larger content contributions include iPC data from Esri Japan (new to the vector basemap) and an updated submission from Esri Romania. \u00a0Additional commercial data updates from HERE were also incorporated into this map release.<\/p>\n<p><em>iPC data from Esri Japan in Navigation vector map style<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/webmap\/viewer.html?webmap=c50de463235e4161b206d000587af18b&amp;center=139.757980,35.686483&amp;level=15\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Japan_NavigationStyle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Esri Romania updated contribution in World Topo vector map style<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/webmap\/viewer.html?webmap=67372ff42cd145319639a99152b15bc3&amp;center=26.089054,44.435853&amp;level=17\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-67589 noIMGBackground  alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Romania_Topo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits of Vector Tile Basemaps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/tag\/vector-basemap\/\" target=\"_blank\">previous blogs<\/a>, the Esri vector tile basemaps have four main advantages over their raster basemap counterparts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Updated Data cooked into single tile set<\/li>\n<li>Faster release time of contributed and commercial data\u00a0updates<\/li>\n<li>Map style customization<\/li>\n<li>Better display on high-resolution devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The benefit of the updated data cooked into a single tile set allows all the map styles to draw from the same source tiles. The vector maps are rendered client-side from a set of resource files that control the display styles. \u00a0Esri has 9 core <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?id=30de8da907d240a0bccd5ad3ff25ef4a&amp;focus=layers&amp;sortField=modified&amp;sortOrder=desc\" target=\"_blank\">vector tile basemaps<\/a> created for use. Many of the beta vector styles are style counterparts to the raster basemaps. \u00a0Just having to update one vector tile set allows us to push contributed and commercial data updates online in a shorter time frame than the caching of multiple sets of raster basemaps. \u00a0The resource folder contains a json file that can be customized by the end-user. \u00a0This customization can be content changes (turn on or off feature layers), color changes (fills, lines, type), font changes, and more. \u00a0See our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/esri.maps.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=f0b44a7e86b84109920e23e1e09d38a8\" target=\"_blank\">Vector Tile Reference Document<\/a>\u00a0for more detailed information about customizing the vector tile basemaps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sample Vector Tile Maps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The newest custom basemaps that Esri has made available for use through our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/group.html?id=20dd19496c504cbf999c408014f88353&amp;sortField=modified&amp;sortOrder=desc&amp;focus=layers\" target=\"_blank\">Sample Vector Tiles<\/a>\u00a0group is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=763884983d3544c0a418a97992881fce\" target=\"_blank\">Mid-Century<\/a> map. This unique take on the fabulous fifties was inspired by the atomic era designs, art and fonts used in advertisements of the time.
