This update features new and improved high-resolution imagery for areas covering most of Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Denmark, parts of New Zealand and the city of Corona, CA as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69236 noIMGBackground\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/R18_map.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As announced in late June at the Esri International User Conference,\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Esri Announces Partnership with DigitalGlobe\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/2016\/06\/27\/digitalglobe-partners-with-esri-to-update-world-imagery\/\" target=\"_blank\">Esri has partnered with DigitalGlobe<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to update our World Imagery basemap with the latest available DigitalGlobe basemap imagery content.\u00a0 This includes imagery from DigitalGlobe\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Basemap +Vivid Product Info\" href=\"http:\/\/explore.digitalglobe.com\/Basemap-Vivid.html\" target=\"_blank\">Basemap +Vivid<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Basemap +Metro Product Info\" href=\"http:\/\/explore.digitalglobe.com\/Basemap-Metro.html\" target=\"_blank\">Basemap +Metro<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>products.\u00a0This week we published our\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.esri.com\/esri\/arcgis\/2016\/09\/15\/whats-new-world-imagery-digitalglobe\/\" target=\"_blank\">second release<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of DigitalGlobe updates with Basemap +Vivid imagery, which is now available at 0.3 to 1.0m resolution (down to Level 17) for Brazil and Saudi Arabia. The Basemap +Vivid imagery significantly improves upon the image currency and quality in these countries, as you can see for a few sample areas in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/MapSeries\/index.html?appid=6cea8f99125b486ab988c3f068ac4356\" target=\"_blank\">story map<\/a> below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/MapSeries\/index.html?appid=6cea8f99125b486ab988c3f068ac4356\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69238 noIMGBackground\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/R18_Story.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the next few months, Esri will continue to release regular updates to the World Imagery basemap with latest available imagery from both Basemap +Vivid and Basemap +Metro products.\u00a0 The next +Vivid updates will include sub-meter resolution imagery for large parts of Western Europe.\u00a0 In addition, we will soon release the first set of +Metro updates with sub-meter resolution imagery for hundreds of large metro areas around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Contributions from our GIS user community updated areas in\u00a0New Zealand (Levels 14 to 21),\u00a0Denmark (expanded to Level 20), and the city of Corona, CA (Levels 14 to 21), all seen in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/MapSeries\/index.html?appid=6cea8f99125b486ab988c3f068ac4356\" target=\"_blank\">story map<\/a> for this release.<\/p>\n<p><em>Top is our previous imagery (older, seam mixing <em>color with\u00a0<\/em>black &amp; white).<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Bottom is new imagery (newer, constant color image). \u00a0This is near Kaikoura, NZ.<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69237 noIMGBackground\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2019\/01\/OldNewLINZ_R18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The World Imagery basemap, and the\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Living Atlas of the World\" href=\"http:\/\/livingatlas.arcgis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Living Atlas of the World<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0as a whole, continues to get better as we release more recent and detailed imagery from DigitalGlobe and others in the GIS user community!<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Living Atlas Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How do I Use?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Combine content from the Living Atlas with your own data.\u00a0<a title=\"Combine content from this repository with your own data\" href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/living-atlas\/use\/use-the-living-atlas.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Create powerful new maps and applications!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How do I contribute?<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Join the growing community of Living Atlas of the World contributors.\u00a0<a title=\"The two ways to contribute\" href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/living-atlas\/contribute\/contribute-to-the-living-atlas.htm\" target=\"_blank\">There are two ways to contribute!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Living Atlas Newsletter:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0This newsletter will keep you and other members of the Living Atlas user community informed through success stories, examples of applied use, visibility of new content, announcements about events, and other useful resources and information.
