data-contrast=\"none\">B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lue catfish<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ictalurus<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">furcatus<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">) \u202f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are native<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to the Mississippi River <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">drainage<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, they\u2019ve <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">been introduced <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">over the last several decade<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a multitude of other <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">areas <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to encourage sport fishing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Among reasons they<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019re <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">popular for sport fishing \u2013 they&#8217;re uncommonly big (they can reach 50 pounds with regularity) and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">some say they\u2019re <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">outrageously <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">scrumptious.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in some circles\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hey may be desirable<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in others they<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019re a nuisance<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">C<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">haracteristics\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">such as<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0their adaptability,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0sheer\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">size,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">longevity<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and tendency to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rapidly <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">overpopulate <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">have <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">contributed to their <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">classi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fication <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a problematic <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">invasive species<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Perhaps most problematic is their undiscerning palate, which<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0has<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in turn <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">contributed to declining <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">populations of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Callinectes_sapidus\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Blue crabs<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Callinectes\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">who have <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">historically <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">relied on the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ir <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">m<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lectrofishing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">uses a non-invasive way to apply\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">l<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ow voltage frequency <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coax <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cat<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fish from the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">river bottoms <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to the surface<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Once fish are visible at the surface,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">researchers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">can<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sample and quantify <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">population characteristics<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0analyze<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">georeference<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> several frames of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">collected<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">footage<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Within each<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0targeted frame<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, h<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">identif<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ied <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and classif<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ed data-contrast=\"auto\">attributes <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in a feature class <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as training data<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and exported <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">results using <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">deep learning tools in ArcGIS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span results\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and efficacy<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">it c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ould then<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0be used with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">drone footage from<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span
