We really like this pattern because with just a little bit of JavaScript an organization can create a simple web service and connect to any data source.<\/p>\n<p>Getting a load of new forms of data in interactive charts, maps, and models is truly a great experience. \u00a0All data provider developers need to know are how to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Fetch data from an API<\/li>\n<li>Format data as GeoJSON<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The rest of the heavy lifting is taken care of by the provider framework.\u00a0 While this pattern and project is still evolving, please feel free to use it with Insights for ArcGIS and give us your feedback.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Create a provider that connects to Google Sheets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This provider will connect you to environmental volunteer information contained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/sheets\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\">Google Sheets<\/a>\u00a0and then make that data available in Insights for ArcGIS.\u00a0 The data can be reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1JlPaiuIHXmkfpLBaQdoRixPSasjX5NlDte70pyFT9yI\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All of the step-by-step instructions with code and notes can be found in <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/koopjs\/koop-provider-google-sheets\" target=\"_blank\">this GitHub project<\/a>. \u00a0Additional information about creating a provider can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/koopjs.github.io\/docs\/specs\/provider\/\">here<\/a>. \u00a0Once you\u2019ve completed, you\u2019ll see a complete transformation.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll have started with this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/google-sheets.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/google-sheets.png\" alt=\"Google Sheets\" width=\"975\" height=\"615\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The final product will be something like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/insights-with-google-sheets.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77013\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/03\/insights-with-google-sheets.png\" alt=\"Insights with Google Sheets\" width=\"975\" height=\"614\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve seen one provider in action, with Google Sheets, let us know what other connections you\u2019d like to see e.g. Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce etc. \u00a0We&#8217;d like to hear from you.<\/p>\n"}],"authors":[{"ID":6671,"user_firstname":"Doug","user_lastname":"Carroll","nickname":"doogle_startups","user_nicename":"doogle_startups","display_name":"Doug Carroll","user_email":"DCarroll@esri.com","user_url":"","user_registered":"2018-03-02 00:18:39","user_description":"I am a developer on the Insights for ArcGIS team and have a passion for helping partners integrate GIS into their core business.
