The updated services include Viewshed, Profile, and Summarize Elevation. Previously, elevation data for these areas were only available at lower resolution. With the update, these five countries now join the continental US as areas using 10 meter data. Nearly all other parts of the world use 30 meter resolution SRTM data as their finest resolution in the global elevation analysis services.<\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to access these services across the ArcGIS platform.<\/p>\n<p>In ArcGIS Pro, Elevation services are found in the Analysis tab under Ready-to-Use Tools.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-77978 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig1.png\" alt=\"Figure 1: ArcGIS Pro Elevation Services\" width=\"869\" height=\"515\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In ArcMap, sign in to your ArcGIS Online account and the services can be found at the bottom of the Catalog window under Ready-To-Use Services.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-77979 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig2.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 2: ArcMap Elevation Services\" width=\"308\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In ArcGIS Online you can use these services to perform interactive visibility analysis anywhere in the world. To do this, click the Analysis button and find <a href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/arcgis-online\/analyze\/create-viewshed.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Create Viewshed<\/a> under the Find Locations section.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-77980 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig3.png\" alt=\"Figure 3: ArcGIS Online Elevation Services\" width=\"329\" height=\"740\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to create your own custom app with an interactive elevation profile graph widget, the quickest way to do that is with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=4aa7e7ae8b964ee88c78cc261b9faf82\" target=\"_blank\">Profile App Template<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-77981\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Fig4.png\" alt=\"Figure 4: Profile App\" width=\"1222\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS you can create your own custom hosted analysis applications. The Create Viewshed dialog shown above from ArcGIS Online is also available as a standard <a href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/web-appbuilder\/create-apps\/widget-analysis.htm\" target=\"_blank\">analysis widget<\/a> in Web AppBuilder.<\/p>\n<p>And if you want to add an elevation profile graph into your Web AppBuilder project, there is a free <a href=\"https:\/\/geonet.esri.com\/docs\/DOC-3342\" target=\"_blank\">custom profile widget<\/a> available.<\/p>\n<p>For developers more interested in hacking a bit of code, these services are also available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.arcgis.com\/rest\/elevation\/api-reference\/get-started-with-elevation-services.htm\" target=\"_blank\">REST API<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the elevation analysis services <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.arcgis.com\/en\/pro-app\/tool-reference\/appendices\/geoprocessing-tools-that-use-credits.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_A2BEF87D5BFC45A88B901D3FCD35C3AE\" target=\"_blank\">consume credits<\/a> (1 credit per 1,000 input features) and therefore your account needs to have certain <a href=\"http:\/\/doc.arcgis.com\/en\/arcgis-online\/analyze\/use-analysis-tools.htm\" target=\"_blank\">permissions<\/a> set by your site administrator in order to take advantage of these services.
