Additionally, the navigation controls are now located in a compact sidebar so readers can easily browse between items without returning to the overview. So be sure to keep <em>tabs<\/em> on this blog for news of future updates&#8230;hint! hint!<\/p>\n<p>Learn how you can use collections to showcase your stories and how to make a great one\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/sharing-collaboration\/start-your-first-arcgis-storymaps-collection\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"New-sidecar-layout\">New sidecar layout<\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a fan of the <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps-classic.arcgis.com\/en\/app-list\/cascade\/\">classic Cascade template<\/a>, you&#8217;ll likely be excited about this next new feature. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/products\/arcgis-storymaps\/mapping\/6-ways-to-use-sidecar-in-the-new-arcgis-storymaps\/\">Sidecar<\/a> now has two layouts for you to choose from: the previously available <em>docked panel layout<\/em> and the new <em>floating panel layout<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The new layout brings many of the best things about sidecars and classic Cascades together. You can build an immersive block with narrative panels (that can contain images and media as well as text) that slide across the screen as readers scroll through your story. If you still haven&#8217;t had enough, you can run through another <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.arcgis.com\/en\/projects\/build-a-sidecar-in-your-storymap\/\">sidecar lesson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Duplicate-a-story\">Duplicate a story<\/h2>\n<p>Yep, that\u2019s right! You can create a copy of any story you own. (Administrators can also copy any story in their organization.) Just open a story in builder and find the <strong>Duplicate story<\/strong> option in the <strong>More actions<\/strong> (\u2026) menu in the header. This can be used to create a backup copy of a story or to use an existing story a template for a new story. You can duplicate a collection too.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"Story-navigation\">Story navigation<\/h2>\n<p>Many of you have requested the ability to add a table of contents or bookmark links that let readers jump to different parts of a story. The April 2020 update has added a new story navigation feature to help with this. Annotation boxes, leader lines, and arrows now have several visual treatments you can choose from to improve the readability and communicative value of your express maps. These styles are themed, so the colors and fonts always match the rest of your story. Just select an annotation element and you\u2019ll be able to adjust aspects of its appearance (color, line style, etc.) in the styling panel. Two new themes are now available: Tidal and Slate.<\/p>\n<p>With a deep blue background and substantial feel, <em>Tidal<\/em> is a dark theme (paired with a light header\/footer) that\u2019s suitable for telling stories about the ocean and other vast or weighty topics. It uses muted accent colors, clean sans serif fonts, and the <a class=\"sc-lhVmIH kklaKG\" title=\"https:\/\/testing-story.maps.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=67ab7f7c535c4687b6518e6d2343e8a2\" href=\"https:\/\/testing-story.maps.arcgis.com\/home\/item.html?id=67ab7f7c535c4687b6518e6d2343e8a2\">Ocean basemap<\/a> to highlight natural features. The background of stories that use the Tidal theme gets darker as readers descend into the story, giving them feeling of diving deeper and deeper in to the topic.
