It wasn\u2019t just the quantity of stories that wowed us\u2014but the quality of them, too.","flexible_content":[{"acf_fc_layout":"content","content":"<p><em>This piece of content is no longer being maintained and may reference events in the past or product features that have changed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As December comes to an end, and with it, 2017, those of us on Esri\u2019s Story Maps team have been left thinking two things:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Jeez, that went by fast! And,<\/li>\n<li>What a great time to belong to this community of storytellers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This year we saw more story maps created than ever before\u2014sometimes more than 2,000 in a single week. It wasn\u2019t just the sheer quantity of stories that impressed us, but the <em>quality<\/em> of them, too.<\/p>\n<p>Between our annual Story Maps contest, each of our 12 Story Maps of the Month, and stories we saw submitted to the gallery or shared on social media, rarely a day went by where the team didn\u2019t have its proverbial socks blown off. Some of these stories were the work of our own talented colleagues, others came from our ever-growing user community. All of them were terrific.<\/p>\n<p>So, to mark the end of a great year in story maps, we\u2019ve collected some of our favorite pieces into two collections.<\/p>\n<p>The first is our <a title=\"Our Favorite Community-Produced Story Maps of 2017\" href=\"http:\/\/arcg.is\/2CsHGf8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">favorite stories created by our user community<\/a> this past year. Selecting just 18 entries was a challenge in itself\u2014you all made so many great ones\u2014but that\u2019s a challenge we\u2019re thrilled to have. Like you, we managed to make more stories than ever this past year, and we learned a lot in the process.
