It&#8217;s up to our treasurer.\u201d He took a piece of paper from his back pocket, unfolded it, and handed it to me. \u201cHere\u2019s that justification you wanted me to write for an Advanced license,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d been expecting an email with a few bullet points. I couldn\u2019t follow it very well\u2014I haven\u2019t done any hands-on GIS in years\u2014but it seemed plausible. Something about donkeys crossing the road and visibility and whatnot. I guess Wyatt really did need all those specialized tools. \u201cOkay,\u201d I said. \u201cI\u2019ll change your license settings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We had some Advanced licenses available, but we were low on extensions. I like the flexibility of Named User licensing\u2014it\u2019s easy to assign licenses and easy to change license assignments if someone leaves the company or doesn\u2019t need a license anymore.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch, I scanned the <strong>Manage Licenses<\/strong> page of our organization for people who weren\u2019t active. I saw that one of our members hadn\u2019t used Pro since August\u2014around the time he became a department manager and started wearing fancy shirts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100109\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100109\" style=\"width: 705px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/last-used-august-22.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/last-used-august-22.png\" alt=\"An ArcGIS Online member&#039;s information on the Manage Licenses page\" width=\"705\" height=\"102\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100109 noIMGBackground\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the Manage Licenses page, I can see when our members last used ArcGIS Pro.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I selected Ulysses and revoked his extensions. That freed up four analysis extension licenses. Then I selected Wyatt. I changed his ArcGIS Pro license from Basic to Advanced and assigned him four extensions. I clicked <strong>Update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100111\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100111\" style=\"width: 572px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/update-license.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/update-license.png\" alt=\"ArcGIS Pro license settings for an ArcGIS Online member\" width=\"572\" height=\"259\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100111\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When I update the license, Wyatt gets an email notifying him that his account has been modified.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Chapter 8: Wyatt changes his licensing portal<\/h3>\n<p>Now that he had an Advanced license, Wyatt was ready to reset his licensing portal to our organization. In ArcGIS Pro, he opened the <strong>Licensing <\/strong>page.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100129\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100129\" style=\"width: 347px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/settings-licensing-portal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/settings-licensing-portal.png\" alt=\"Settings area of the ArcGIS Pro Licensing page\" width=\"347\" height=\"346\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100129 noIMGBackground\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wyatt\u2019s licensing portal is https:\/\/www.arcgis.com.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He clicked <strong>Configure your licensing options<\/strong>. In the <strong>Licensing <\/strong>dialog box, under <strong>ArcGIS Online<\/strong>, he replaced <span style=\"color: #008000\">https:\/\/www.arcgis.com<\/span> with our organization\u2019s URL.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100132\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100132\" style=\"width: 477px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/configure-licensing-options.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/configure-licensing-options.png\" alt=\"The new URL in the Licensing dialog box.\" width=\"477\" height=\"251\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100132 noIMGBackground\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100132\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After the licensing portal is changed, ArcGIS Pro needs to be restarted.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After restarting ArcGISPro and signing in, he went back to the <strong>Licensing <\/strong>page. He had an Advanced license and the four extensions I\u2019d given him. His licensing portal was set to <span style=\"color: #008000\">https:\/\/iesc.maps.arcgis.com<\/span>. <\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100136\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100136\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/license-information-with-licensing-portal.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/license-information-with-licensing-portal.png\" alt=\"Licensing page in ArcGIS Pro\" width=\"414\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100136 noIMGBackground\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wyatt\u2019s new license configuration.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On the <strong>Portals <\/strong>page, his licensing and active portal were now both set to our organization. He could have kept using <span style=\"color: #008000\">https:\/\/www.arcgis.com<\/span> as the portal for his trial account, but he decided to replace it with the organization\u2019s URL. He added that portal and signed in to it. He selected and removed the arcgis.com portal.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_100264\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-100264\" style=\"width: 395px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/licensing-portal-iesc1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/arcgis-blog\/app\/uploads\/2018\/02\/licensing-portal-iesc1.png\" alt=\"Portals connections after updates\" width=\"395\" height=\"229\" class=\"size-full wp-image-100264 noIMGBackground\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-100264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wyatt\u2019s licensing and active portal are set to the Inland Empire Squires Council. A connection is available to the Box Springs Mountain Reserve.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Chapter 9: Wyatt switches active portals<\/h3>\n<p>When their ArcGIS Trial expired, Wyatt\u2019s conservation group converted it to a subscription. They also purchased a couple of ArcGIS Pro Basic licenses. Wyatt kept his licensing portal set to the Inland Empire Squires Council.<\/p>\n<p>He continued to make maps for both organizations, changing his active portal as needed.
