I&#8217;ve got several requests asking how it was made and, in a more general sense, how to save a symbol to a style. You know, that mysterious option sitting next to the well-worn stroke and fill symbol layers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1:56<\/a> Randomizing the marker symbol. Even though true randomness is a philosophical illusion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3:26<\/a> Duplicating a symbol layer. Stack those things up!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=235\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3:55<\/a> Adding the super cool &#8220;donut&#8221; effect, which just hollows out a polygon so you can keep only the inner-boundary ribbons like those cool political wall maps (don&#8217;t use a buffer, use a simple rendering effect!).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6:12<\/a> Where I embarrassingly forget that I&#8217;ve not actually changed the donut width yet and get all confused.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=587\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">9:47<\/a> Creating a wobbly line, so it looks like a person drew it and not a robot, using the &#8220;wave&#8221; effect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=687\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11:27<\/a> Stacking a couple semi-transparent wobbly lines to look inky.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=767\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12:48<\/a> Controlling the dash template to add a random-looking splash of extra ink now and then. Getting comfortable with the dash effect is a generally helpful thing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">16:09<\/a> An eminently useful mnemonic for remembering small scale vs large scale. Picture a fish&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xL4mDaBfAyA?t=1035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">17:15<\/a> Saving a symbol to the &#8220;Favorites&#8221; style.
