Stories That Make a Difference<\/h2>\n

The Red Cross published a StoryMap that shows people where they can access resources. <\/span><\/p>\n

They used the new Guided Tour feat<\/span>ure to show how they are delivering <\/span>meals to people who are vulnerable and highlight the story of a COVID-19 survivor who is donating<\/span> convalescent plasma for people who are fighting the disease now.\u00a0 The Red Cross is also bringing awareness to their<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Virtual Family Assistance Center, which supports families who have lost loved ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

By integrating the stories and photos of real people, the\u202f<\/span><\/span>How the Red Cross is Helping People During COVID-19<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u202fstory successfully highlights the ways in which the organization’s volunteer network and ongoing mission activities translate into community support during the COVID-19 pandemic. A frequent\u00a0<\/span><\/span>StoryMaps<\/span><\/span>\u00a0user for state agency projects,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Los Angeles\u202f<\/span><\/span>Controller Ron Galperin created a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>StoryMap<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u202fto help constituents find fresh food in their area,\u202fserving a critical need for L.A. communities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Around the world, we are seeing stories like this one from the United Nations,<\/a> who is compiling data across hundreds of countries, provinces, and cities using a survey embedded within a StoryMap.<\/p>\n

The simple questionnaire asks for information about the current situation in your city or neighborhood, the existing response measures, and emerging impacts from the pandemic to help paint a more accurate picture on what is happening in urban areas across the world.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, it’s important to also remember that stories are what stick with people most. Maps, data, and visual content will get you off to a great start, but here are a few tips on how to tell a good story that will take your StoryMap to the next level.<\/p>\n

  2. Spend time creating a compelling, clear headline for your story and make sure you have powerful photos or graphics that will draw readers in.<\/li>\n
