Overview


3D geographic content is quickly becoming more common as GIS users look to model, display, and understand spatial data in three dimensions, especially in urban areas. We’re looking for someone passionate about building software that helps users create a 3D representation of our world that supports diverse use cases from photorealism to proximity analysis and beyond. The types of 3D features that users will need to create and maintain are diverse and include objects like buildings, underground pipes, and restricted airspace volumes.
As part of the 3D data and editing team within the ArcGIS Pro software development team, you’ll help design, test, maintain, and document the many tools and capabilities that allow users to complete advanced editing workflows with 3D data. Your input is required to be both empirical, for example does it work, and appraising, for example is it simple and logical to use. As a testing specialist, you will write, maintain, and monitor automated tests within our testing harnesses using scripting and coding, as well as compile additional test scenarios as new capabilities are added.
We are in the early stages of delivering our next generation 3D modeling storage format, the 3D Object Feature Layer, so now is a great time to add your skills to a small team of engineers and developers to ensure the software meets the growing needs of our 3D users.

Responsibilities


  • Work with users and industry experts to identify primary use-cases and workflows
  • Contribute to the design and usability of 3D editing tools
  • Develop and implement test cases and validate bug fixes
  • Contribute to the maintenance, monitoring, and growth of the automated test suite
  • Troubleshoot production issues in current and past software versions
  • Work with other teams to expose 3D editing and storage capabilities across the ArcGIS Platform, including the server, online, and mobile platforms

Requirements


  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment
  • Deep knowledge of 3D data modeling techniques, including experience with 3rd party 3D modeling applications, such as SketchUp, Maya, and Blender
  • Familiarity with a variety of 3D model formats, such as glTF and COLLADA
  • Significant experience using a programming language, such as C# and Python
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, depending on position level

Recommended Qualifications


  • Familiarity with ArcGIS platform technologies, including enterprise geodatabases and services
  • Working knowledge of computer graphics APIs such as DirectX and OpenGL
  • Working knowledge of web GIS technologies such as JSON, REST, and JavaScript
