Overview


The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) solutions provided by Esri are used by some of the largest fleet operations in the world. We actively develop new capabilities, and have an opening for an energetic, organized, and proactive individual to test the quality and performance of these solvers, and to contribute to its future design and documentation.

Responsibilities


  • Extend and maintain an extensive suite of problem instances that exercise various features of the core VRP solver
  • Build and run industry-standard benchmarks to monitor the quality and performance of the core VRP solver
  • Create adversarial test cases to expose potential flaws in solution quality
  • Perform sensitivity analysis to understand how VRP solutions change with changes to input parameters and values
  • Engage with logistics customers to understand their real-world business problems, and to model those problems using Esri VRP functionality
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose customer problems involving solution quality or performance
  • Create innovative solutions combining various Network Analyst solvers, within the broader context of strategic planning and territory design
  • Research and analyze customer requests and industry standards to establish and define new solver requirements
  • Collaborate with development programmers to design and build innovative new functionality
  • Test and document recommended workflows for ArcGIS users and developers
  • Understand state-of-the-art VRP research

Requirements


  • Experience developing applications in Python
  • 1+ years of experience in one of the following:
    • Developing test data and test cases as well as designing and running stress and load tests
    • Statistical analysis on large datasets to summarize data, discover trends and patterns, and provide insight
    • Jupyter Notebooks and Python's visualization and data science libraries (such as, Matplotlib and Pandas)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to analyze and solve problems in rigorous and innovative ways
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in operations research, computer science, mathematics, or related field

Recommended Qualifications


  • Knowledge of Vehicle Routing Problem models such as electric vehicle routing and household waste pickup
  • Knowledge of solution methodologies, especially the use of metaheuristics
  • Experience with statistical design of experiments and parameter tuning
  • Comfortable working with REST API through Python

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$72,800-$124,800 USD
