Overview


As a product engineer on the geodatabase team, you will be responsible for understanding and communicating GIS data management functionality as it is used in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and web GIS with an emphasis on underlying datastore concepts and principals. You will write user guidance on data management functionality, participate in design discussions and reviews of new functionality, perform ad hoc and holistic testing with enterprise databases, and build and document viable workflows and examples. You will work with our cross-functional global team of product engineers and writers. You will be actively involved with designing, building, and delivering geodatabase documentation using software development and quality assurance practices. You will be authoring developer scripts for supporting operational systems and engaging directly with customers and business partners to further the advancement of the core technology.

This challenging opportunity allows you work with a diverse group of engineers and developers to implement creative solutions to complex problems for creating and managing GIS data. You will also learn best practices from individuals that have decades of combined experience building ArcGIS, a premiere GIS platform.

Responsibilities


  • Advocate for users who design, create and manage GIS data for their enterprise organization, using your problem-solving skills to address user needs and improve software quality
  • Assist in evaluating and prioritizing tasks and features
  • Contribute to our next generation functionality in design, testing, documentation, and demonstrations of software capabilities
  • Work collaboratively with software developers to identify and troubleshoot the causes of product issues and limitations
  • Provide technical assistance for the product
  • Document creative, logical, and practical solutions to real-world problems
  • Help shape product documentation with active contributions to administrative and user documentation
  • Communicate project status regularly to the team
  • Perform daily testing, analysis, investigation, and identification of documentation and software issues
  • Troubleshoot and triage issues reported by customers
  • Research and analyze customer requests, industry standards, and specifications to help define requirements for enhancing our documentation experience
  • Share workflows in help topics, blog articles, presentations, tutorials, and samples

Requirements


  • 2+ years of industry experience in software testing or software development
  • Proven experience writing technical documentation
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, or other geospatial technology
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to build and deliver quality software in a team environment
  • Effective project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing and working with relational database vendor languages and environments (T*SQL, PL/SQL, and more)
  • Bachelor's in GIS, geography, engineering, computer science, math, or related fields

Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience with developing and implementing test plans and test automation
  • Experience with complex data sets within an enterprise-level environment, including the ability to leverage Oracle and/or SQL Server
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of software design to contribute to the user experience (UI/UX)
  • Experience developing and executing automated, functional, regression, and performance tests
  • Knowledge of a source control and issue management system
  • Master's in GIS, geography, engineering, computer science, math, or related fields

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$72,800-$124,800 USD
