Overview

Esri’s Accessibility Team is a centralized, dedicated team with the goals of driving accessibility innovation in ArcGIS software and products. This team’s efforts support our diverse user communities to uplift all people, emphasizing the inclusion of those with disabilities. The work that they do contributes to positive change in our company culture as well. As a member of this unique and highly collaborative team, you will advocate for accessibility strategies across ArcGIS product groups and development teams, as you inspire, reinforce, and incorporate accessibility best practices across the company. Esri has a Relocation Assistance Program and can provide support with relocating to the Redlands, CA area for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate product accessibility evaluations: Coordinate accessibility evaluations of ArcGIS products, emphasizing desktop software offerings such as ArcGIS Pro. Conduct manual and automated testing to identify accessibility issues, and collaborate with internal teams and external partners (such as third-party accessibility testing contractors) to deliver high-quality evaluation results. Create and maintain Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) based on VPATs, detailing product-specific accessibility features and conformance levels.
  • Advance accessibility testing strategies: Influence accessibility testing best practices across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. Partner with designers, engineers, and product managers to embed accessibility considerations throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Promote test automation and test maintenance to improve product quality and consistency. Refine automated testing for foundational ArcGIS products.
  • Enhance accessibility testing infrastructure: Develop and maintain testing environments for product testing, and administer services for testing and monitoring efforts. Establish testing (such as UI unit testing, harness testing) and certification processes across Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes environments to promote high-quality product releases.
  • Coordinate accessibility resources and events: Maintain and update internal accessibility resources and materials (such as educational and training assets, tools, processes). Coordinate and conduct internal accessibility testing events (such as Holistic events).
  • Engage with our global community: Communicate to external audiences about accessibility practices at Esri by presenting at Esri events, authoring blogs and articles, and developing publicly available accessibility resources and materials.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with current global accessibility standards and guidelines (such as WCAG, Revised Section 508)
  • Experience with accessibility testing best practices on at least one software platform (such as web, desktop, mobile Android/iOS)
  • Experience with manual/automated accessibility evaluation using testing tools and assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and automated web scanning tools
  • Experience creating or contributing to Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) and/or working with Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, user experience or a related field

Recommended Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS software and/or other GIS and mapping products
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies and commercial software delivery processes
  • Confident in ability to effectively communicate accessibility requirements across various stakeholder audiences (such as developers, product managers, end users, customers)
  • Practical knowledge of web-based programming languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and/or desktop software programming languages (C#, C, C++, Python)
  • Familiarity with GitHub for project and issue creation and tracking

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$83,824-$149,032 USD
