Join our Esri Press team and use your skills and the author’s subject matter expertise to play an instrumental role in publishing an accessible and marketable book. Esri Press is the industry standard for delivering quality geospatial learning content. From print to web, we collaborate with authors and internal team members to develop opportunities for new publications. 

Responsibilities


  • Work closely with external authors, chapter-by-chapter, to do a deep dive of their text to find incomplete, inconsistent, and repetitive stories and messaging and restructure it into a concise, approachable story, all while retaining the authors voice
  • Work with internal subject matter experts to turn their knowledge into written manuscripts that clearly communicate with the audience
  • Review sample chapters and book proposals to assess writing ability and level of support needed to write the manuscript within scope and on time
  • Make recommendations on how to improve the writing and focus the author
  • Write front matter, back matter, cover copy, and marketing copy
  • Work with the acquisitions team to develop a writing strategy and author writing guidelines

Requirements


  • 5+ years of publishing experience as a developmental editor
  • Strong level of organization; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to drive on-time, on-budget, high-quality development efforts
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Background in non-fiction, self-help, health, science, or technical editing and writing
  • Bachelor’s in journalism, communications, advertising, business, or related field

Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience with ESL authors
  • Prior experience in the publishing industry
  • Prior experience with Workfront project management software, Microsoft Projects, or similar enterprise project management software
