Apply your development and design experience to help the ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World team build new and dynamic apps to support a growing collection of datasets. You will work alongside world-class cartographers and designers to build and deploy apps helping the GIS community and general public understand topics like natural hazards, human population and demographics, global ecosystems and biodiversity, and creating policy mapping apps based on current events. In this role, you will work with content development and product engineering leads who are transforming data into information, applications, developing blogs, and creating geospatial learning opportunities that will change the world.


  • Design and develop focused browser-based apps that meet the requirements of a broad range of users
  • Design responsive and intuitive user interfaces for mobile, desktop, and web systems
  • Collaborate with other developers, designers, cartographers and content specialists to deliver a useful and visually appealing app
  • Define user requirements; design and develop applications and APIs for web-based services
  • Capture user needs by ensuring that ArcGIS software meets real-world usage scenarios
  • Solve and articulate complex problems with application design, development, and user experiences


  • 2+ years of commercial software development experience
  • Demonstrated experience and passion for JavaScript, CSS3, HTML, and/or Python
  • A flare for user experience and interface design
  • Ability to work closely with the team to build quality apps in a constantly evolving environment
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, engineering, GIS, or related field, depending on position level

Recommended Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, GIS, or related field
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS JavaScript API, web services, and REST
  • Knowledge of TypeScript, C#, Objective-C, or Java
  • Experience with React or other front-end frameworks
  • Experience with Webpack, Gulp or similar front-end build tools
  • Familiarity with object-oriented design and JavaScript design patterns; and an understanding of algorithms

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.


A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $74,880.00 - $124,800.00.
