Graphic Designer- Icons

Overview

Join our innovative Creative Lab to help create user-centric technology that is intuitive, usable, cool, and elegant. You’ll work with developers and designers to craft icons for our software, online, and mobile applications as well as for technical diagrams and presentations.

Our Creative Lab is a small, stealth team of designers, writers, and strategists, working closely with the Executive Creative Director. Our job is to help promote Esri solutions, maps, apps, and incredible geochicness around the world. We love bold ideas, big ideas, fun ideas, smart ideas, and even challenging ideas. In other words, we love ideas. Period.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, plan, design, and produce specialized graphic and/or illustrative material within established Esri iconography guidelines
• Create icons for use in Esri products including desktop, online, and mobile applications
• Create icons for illustrative technical diagrams and presentation libraries
• Develop illustrations dealing with processes and relationships
• Interpret project requirements and specifications to create illustrations and icons that provide a clear metaphor of purpose and action
• Exhibit creativity within brand guidelines, design templates, style guides, and specifications
• Work with other departments to ascertain needs and to develop graphic directions, concepts, and requirements for assigned projects
• Plan production schedules for the various steps in the design process
• Provide technical advice and guidance on design and technical graphics issues to other departments
• Participate in group sessions and meetings on a project basis
• Accurately maintain graphics workflow records and design files for archiving

Requirements

• Portfolio Submission: To be considered for this role you must provide a portfolio, link to your online portfolio, or samples of recent work that demonstrate design skills
• 3+ years of demonstrated icon design experience and illustrative work related to the responsibilities specified
• Strong illustration, technical drawing, and vector-based design skills
• Solid foundation in color, lighting, form, concept, composition, and basic illustration techniques
• Ability to identify and define visual design issues and solutions as well as incorporate feedback from members of the design, product management, and marketing teams
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as an integral member of a team
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and icon design skills
• Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in graphic design

Recommended Qualifications

• Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite with a specialized mastery of Illustrator
• Previous focus on concepting and creating icons with specialized knowledge of iconography
• Ability to create automated processes using scripting
