Overview


As part of the mapping team within the core ArcGIS Desktop group, you’ll have the opportunity to combine your cartography expertise with your programming skills to help build the next generation of mapping and symbology tools in ArcGIS.


As a product engineer, you’ll be actively involved in designing the user experience of the application. You’ll help ensure software quality by building and validating realistic workflows and scenarios. You’ll share your understanding of the functionality to our users through writing and presentations.


We are currently working on our next release of ArcGIS Pro, so now is a great time to add your cartographic software skills to a diverse team of engineers and developers committed to delivering a host of innovative cartographic authoring tools.

Responsibilities


  • Review and analyze customer issues and enhancement requests to help prioritize software development efforts
  • Research and analyze industry standards, and specifications to help define cartographic requirements
  • Build and maintain realistic cartographic workflows and projects to validate cartographic tools and processes
  • Contribute to user experience designs and design discussions
  • Review and analyze automated test results, report status on software quality and stability, certify software quality
  • Develop and implement test plans and test cases, write test code, verify code changes and bug fixes
  • Share workflows in help topics, blog articles, presentations, tutorials, and samples

Requirements


  • Demonstrable cartographic experience (portfolio submission)
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Python, Java, C#, or VB.NET
  • Strong written, verbal, graphical communication skills
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in cartography, GIS, computer science, geography, or a related field, depending on position level

Recommended Qualifications


  • Familiarity with Esri’s entire ArcGIS platform
  • Expertise with graphics applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud or similar
  • Familiarity with computer graphics or commercial RDBMS
  • Experience with software testing
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
