The Professional Services Enablement & Communications team empowers and partners with staff communities to multiply their contributions to customers and Esri. We focus our efforts on community building, professional development, and knowledge management to support staff as they grow in their roles and careers. 


As a Principal Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for collaborating with stakeholders to understand how to develop strategies to support evolving business requirements, as well as reinforce the adoption of business best practices. We are looking for a leader to identify and manage complex initiatives, support and enable team members and coordinate with senior leadership.

Our Professional Services Division plays a crucial role in the deployment, usage, and innovation of the ArcGIS platform. Our mission is simple yet powerful: enable user success through the deployment of ArcGIS, broaden the impact of geospatial technology, and push the platform to make our own technology better. 


  • Work with leadership to develop strategies, propose new initiatives, and create plans that positively impact the business 
  • Identify stakeholders who will provide buy-in and initial approval on new work, as well as staff who can support initiatives 
  • Gather information from community leadership and management to better understand how to optimize the alignment of people, process, and technology requirements for future work 
  • Effectively create initiative/project teams and delegate work to staff 
  • Apply best practices to lead the roll-out, oversight, managementand execution of new initiatives/projects 
  • Review the success of initiatives, collect feedback, synthesize information, and offer ideas for improvements 
  • Present recommendations to division leadership as appropriate 
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to other staff to complete successful projects, particularly focusing on initiative development, delegation of work, team alignment, motivation, and review.  


  • 4+ years of experience focused on project management, internal initiatives, or the delivery of solutions  
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and willingness to gain and share knowledge—you must thrive in a dynamic cross-functional team environment 
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (both verbal and written), presentation, and leadership skills 
  • Ability to lead and manage project teams, including virtual team members without direct supervisorial relationship 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize job requirements as well as strong organizational skills 
  • Ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s in communications, business, geospatial technology, or related field 

Recommended Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in business analysis, requirement development, process implementation or related fields 
  • Experience in the design, development, implementation, and/or administration of large-scale professional development solutions, workflows and strategies 
  • Understanding of trend analysis, business intelligence, and process automation
