Overview


Calcite is a design system and developer platform used by product teams and external partners to craft engaging and consistent user experiences across and between mapping applications. We are looking for a principal product designer who will drive the evolution of Calcite documentation standards and Figma environment that will be optimized for multiple platforms and ensure proper governance, versioning, and compliance with accessibility standards as well as maximize user adoption, component reusability, and Calcite team’s productivity.

Responsibilities


  • Contribute to architecting Calcite Figma environment, working closely with other designers and front-end engineers to enhance Calcite UI kits, foundations, tokens, and individual component Figma files while helping govern processes for component creation, version control, announcements, and more
  • Define detailed design specification for Calcite components in Figma based on component usage guidelines’ structure that includes component anatomy, states, types, color, layout, accessibility, etc.
  • Define component documentation on Calcite Design System site, ensuring consistent content organization for usage guidelines
  • Facilitate design reviews with Calcite team members and company stakeholders and incorporate their feedback into your work
  • Partner with a user researcher to validate usability of Calcite components and proactively advocate for the right work
  • Validate implementation of UI components, ensuring UI components created in Figma and code are consistent and accessible
  • Provide Product Design direction and facilitate educational demos to Calcite users and engineers on Calcite component usage while participating in virtual discussions, bug triages, and more, acting as a key liaison to drive successful partnerships
  • Lead engagement with Calcite front-end engineers and product engineers to achieve as architectural, visual, and interaction component consistency between components designed in Figma and coded components
  • Collaborate with Calcite Accessibility stakeholders to guard Calcite UI component compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as well as increase Calcite user adoption of accessibility practices trough evangelizing Calcite accessibility documentation and checklists
  • Participate in design systems conferences, constantly learning about design system and Figma innovation practices while applying those into your work

Requirements


  • 8+ years of experience designing and shipping product on web and mobile
  • Proven record of managing design systems; a portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in Design Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Figma with at least 3+ years designing, governing, and scaling component libraries
  • Experience utilizing WCAG into design solutions
  • Expertise in facilitating workshops and presenting to large audiences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for continuous improvement and advocacy for leveraging innovative Design and Front-end practices

Recommended Qualifications


  • Familiarity with GitHub and front-end technologies (Stencil, JavaScript, Angular, Ember, React, HTML, CSS, Storybook)
  • Experience coding interactive prototypes or/and component interactive samples
  • Experience maintaining Storybook
