Overview


Calcite is a design system and developer platform used by product teams and Esri’s external partners to craft engaging and consistent user experiences across and between mapping applications.
We are looking for a Principal Product Designer who will drive the evolution of Calcite Figma environment that will be optimized for multi-platform UI kits, foundational design language/design tokens, versioning, governance, and accessibility as well as maximize user adoption, reusability, and productivity.

Responsibilities


  • Engage with product designers, engineers, documentation writers, user researchers, and Calcite Leadership to architect, build, and manage Calcite Figma environment
  • Partner with Calcite Design System lead to plan Calcite Figma roadmap and key initiatives as well as work closely with product managers to plan specific design deliverables, drive prioritization, and contribute to task management activities to help track and manage designers’ day-to-day Figma work
  • Drive creation of new Calcite Figma UI web kit, ensuring Figma component consistency with code, definition of variants, states, auto-layout, proper utilization of plugins, version control, accessibility, and utilization of best Figma practices
  • Create Figma component usage documentation templates, working closely with a content strategist to ensure standardized copy
  • Drive process creation for component versioning to ensure long-term scalability
  • Lead engagement with Calcite engineers to achieve as much automation and architectural component consistency between Figma and code
  • Partner with a design system lead and a user researcher to plan usability testing on Calcite users, identifying design system growth areas and proactively advocating for the right work
  • Facilitate design reviews with Calcite designers to ensure incorporation of feedback from team members into their work
  • Foster education of Calcite Figma best practices to Esri design and engineering communities
  • Collaborate with Calcite Accessibility stakeholders to guard Calcite UI component compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as well as increase Calcite user adoption of accessibility practices trough accessibility documentation and checklists
  • Provide guidelines on Product Design to Calcite users and engineers, participating in virtual discussions, bug triages, and more, acting as a key liaison to drive successful partnerships
  • Participate in design systems conferences, constantly learning about design system and Figma innovation practices while applying those into your work
  • Maintain Confluence documentation, posting regular updates about ongoing work to provide exceptional communication to Esri’s product teams about Calcite Design team’s progress on key initiatives and activities

Requirements


  • 7+ years of experience designing and shipping product on web and mobile
  • Proven record of managing design systems; a portfolio that demonstrates your expertise in Design Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Figma with at least 3+ years designing, governing, and scaling component libraries
  • Experience utilizing WCAG into design solutions
  • Expertise in facilitating workshops and presenting to large audiences
  • Familiarity with GitHub and front-end technologies (Stencil, JavaScript, Angular, Ember, React, HTML, CSS, Storybook)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for continuous improvement and advocacy for leveraging innovative Design and Front-end practices
