Overview


Calcite is a design system and developer platform that is used by product teams and Esri’s external partners to craft engaging and consistent user experiences across and between mapping applications.

Calcite Design System team is looking for a Principal Project Manager to translate the needs of 50+ Esri product teams for Calcite new UI components and component enhancements into requirements for each major Calcite release. We are searching for someone who is obsessed with serving users and possesses exceptional relationship-building skills and a strong knowledge of product design and user research best practices.

Responsibilities


  • Own planning, execution, and task management for new Calcite components and component enhancement initiatives from planning and user research to UI/UX Design, accessibility compliance, and implementation, ensuring delivery for Calcite releases
  • Partner with 50+ Esri product teams to gather their needs for new Calcite UI components and component enhancements, performing analysis and driving work item prioritization for Calcite product designers and front-end engineers
  • Manage Calcite Design System team’s relationships with product teams, acting as an aid to meet their needs, while balancing between supporting adhoc requests and planned prioritization of component work for each Calcite major release
  • Maintain a database of the needs each product team has for Calcite, working closely with Calcite Engineering, Design, and Program Management team members to translate those needs into requirements while driving execution
  • Proactively search for shared needs for UI components between multiple product teams, fostering collaboration between them and Calcite while driving adoption of Calcite components
  • Contribute to evolving Calcite roadmap and release planning by partnering with Calcite Engineering, Design, and Program Management to ensure current and future work is based on the needs of Calcite users for new Calcite components and component enhancements
  • Establish and perform project management activities to ensure actual progress is aligned with planned progress
  • Promote discoverability of new Calcite components and enhancements via facilitation of discussions with product teams that are in the early stage of adoption of Calcite Design System
  • Facilitative communication with Esri departments, teams and user community to ensure visibility into Calcite release planning for new components and component enhancements
  • Conduct surveys and perform various user research activities to gather data
  • Represent Calcite in major company-wide events

Requirements


  • 8+ years of experience of product/project/program management experience
    • 5+ years should include experience managing product design and/or user research initiatives
    • 2+ years should include experience with a proven record of leading and growing enterprise-level design systems
  • Proven record ensuring UI component accessibility compliance throughout design and implementation
  • Passion for serving people and going above and beyond to help them meet their needs
  • Experience with Github, Devtopia, Zenhub, Airtable, and Confluence or ability to master knowledge of those tools within weeks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, user experience, interaction design, applied social science, or a related field such as digital marketing

Recommended Qualifications


  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (such as Stencil, JavaScript, Angular, Ember, React, HTML, CSS) is desired but not required

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

 

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $93,600.00 - $187,200.00.
