Overview


Join our UX Research team to take the lead role in building Esri’s user research operations and infrastructure. In this position you will collaborate closely with team members from UX Research, UX/UI Design, and other research and testing teams around the company to strategize and implement thoughtful research processes, systems, and resources. The outcome of your work will be tangible improvements in the rigor, ease, visibility, and value of user research at Esri as well as the creation of a meaningful and engaging research participant experience for ArcGIS users.

Responsibilities


  • Own the strategy and implementation of all aspects of Esri’s user research operations, working collaboratively and transparently across multiple teams to roadmap and enact operational improvements and innovations
  • Manage the participant panel and recruitment questionnaire and channels and assist as needed with recruitment for studies
  • Manage the research repository and expand its capabilities as an organizational hub for research planning and knowledge sharing
  • Develop and maintain research documentation and informational resources as well as internal and external research communications
  • Administer digital and physical research tools and facilities and lead the organizing of research labs at Esri events
  • Serve as subject matter expert on research and design ethics and oversee compliance with privacy policies and regulations
  • Cultivate our internal research community through training on research processes, tools, and methodologies as well as through other activities such as research show-and-tells
  • Conduct primary and secondary research with both Esri staff and customers to inform the improvement of user research operations and infrastructure
  • Ensure that user research operations and processes meet accessibility standards and promote inclusion among both Esri staff and customers
  • Contribute to reporting metrics and tracking impacts of user research
  • Be a human-centered research and design advocate—have an expert opinion, use your voice, and share your knowledge widely internally and externally through talks and publications

Requirements


  • 5+ years of experience working in related research or operational roles
  • Expert-level knowledge of the end-to-end research lifecycle, including common UX research approaches and methodologies
  • Strong grasp of the challenges, trends, and debates in operationalizing user research
  • Demonstrated ability to envision long-term goals and enact near-term incremental steps to achieve them
  • A strong sense of ownership, transparency, flexibility, and ability to self-initiate projects
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills evidenced by the ability to self-manage and appropriately scope and lead collaborative internal projects
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Knowledge of the practices and impacts of inclusive research and design approaches
  • Understanding of the practical and ethical considerations surrounding informed consent, user privacy, research data management, and participant representation
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in human-computer interaction, information science, anthropology, psychology, sociology, communication, or related field (advanced degree preferred)

Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience working in enterprise/B2B settings and communities
  • Familiarity with Airtable, UserTesting, Dovetail, and Salesforce
  • Experience creating scripts, formulas, automations, and integrations between tools or systems
  • Knowledge of the research implications and best practices related to privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA
  • Familiarity with geographic information system (GIS) technologies and audiences
