Overview


At the Esri R&D Center in Vienna, Austria, we drive innovation in Indoor Positioning System (IPS) technology to enhance the capabilities of indoor GIS for both casual and power users across all platforms and devices.     

As a talented research engineer experienced in GIS technology, you will perform data collection and analytics to derive meaningful insights about our positioning algorithms, support our research team in prototyping and assessing novel solutions and support our partners and customers to improve and troubleshoot their IPS deployments. Understanding how our users apply ArcGIS to real-world scenarios, you will contribute to the design, documentation, testing, release, and deployment of ArcGIS IPS. 

Responsibilities


  • Support our R&D team developing new algorithms to improve indoor positioning and mapping capabilities of commercial software
  • Apply empirical methods to evaluate and improve existing algorithms and software products
  • Contribute to data collection and data analyses
  • Produce and present clear IPS performance reports as outcome of any analysis performed
  • Analyze and troubleshoot real-world indoor positioning deployments
  • Support productization of our research projects by tuning parameters to align with future software capabilities and product functionality
  • Develop spatio-temporal analytic toolsets to assist the deployment, maintenance, and management of ArcGIS IPS
  • Contribute to the writing of technical reports, technical papers, and scientific publications 

Requirements


  • 2+ years of experience supporting software development within an agile enviornment
  • Knowledge in statistics, machine learning, signal processing
  • Solid experience with Python (specifically with scientific/data-science packages)
  • Strong fluency with the English language, both verbal and written communication
  • Master’s in applied physics, computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, geoinformatics, or a related field, depending on position level (Ph.D. in applied mathematics, applied physics, computer science, geographic information science, or a related field preferred)

Recommended Qualifications


  • Working knowledge in Indoor Positioning System (IPS), Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), or any related field
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS or other GIS and mapping products 
  • Work experience in data engineering and data science
