The licensing team is a strategic and integral part of our Product Management Division and works with senior leadership to license technology and content for our 100+ products and services, including frequent collaboration with our CTOs, product managers, and global R&D Center teams. We are looking for a strategic thinker, problem solver, and self-directed individual to work with team members and help define business and licensing requirements to support Esri’s mission and objectives.


  • Partner with software development and product management to solidify overall strategy, including cost analysis, risk assessments, and opportunities to drive results for inbound licensing and services agreements

  • Collaborate on requirements gathering, prioritize needs, identify potential risks, and understand the business workflows

  • Lead licensing and services negotiations; draft moderate to complex, non-routine business contractual items; and manage each step of the contracting process working with internal teams to overcome roadblocks and keep the process progressing to completion

  • Negotiate and manage Esri’s Intellectual Property (IP) needs for the portfolio of >100 ArcGIS family of products
  • Review third party proposals and identify risks and unfavorable business and/or legal terms

  • Act as a focal point of contact to provide business guidance, analysis, and risk assessment to Esri teams

  • Execute contract management and administrative activities as applicable

  • Interact extensively with Esri attorneys and company executives to drive winning strategies and results


  • Familiarity with IP/software licensing or purchasing, legal language, and business terms
  • Proven contract, negotiation experience and/or account management skills
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment and creativity to problem solve
  • Exemplary fiduciary and business acumen and a willingness to address complex negotiations with stellar results and a collaborative approach
  • 5+ years of working experience in software, content, IP licensing (outbound or inbound), and contract or purchasing management
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Bachelor's or master's in business, computer science, GIS, or related field
