Overview


Bring your passion for project management and GIS knowledge to a dynamic and highly successful team. Our Software Engineering team in Melbourne is looking for an experienced, creative, and hard-working GIS projects manager to help deliver leading edge cross-platform mapping and GIS solutions that run on the latest mobile devices. Whether it be managing multiple projects that can be organized into a program, or overseeing parallel independent projects that need a guiding eye, you will be integral in the delivery of output by our team.

 

If you were here in the last few months, some of the things you would have done are:

  • Worked with several feature project teams to ensure research progresses at pace in parallel to our core app release efforts
  • Collaborated with development and internationalization teams to ensure releases were sim-shipped in 30+ languages
  • Coordinated with our release group to get update releases of two different apps to the Android, Apple, and Microsoft stores and shared to our own product pages
  • Aggregated information from various sources for inclusion in different levels of 'what’s new' messaging for app releases

Responsibilities


  • Drive the completion of team objectives by managing project plans, scope, and resource allocation
  • Manage project kickoff, requirement gathering, and regular status meetings as needed
  • Work closely with project sponsors and key stakeholders to identify key performance indicators and success criteria for projects
  • Guide diverse project teams to mitigate risks and propose backup plans for areas of high-risk
  • Form strong working relationships within software products teams and across Esri to launch projects on scope and schedule
  • Maintain a project backlog, including prioritization and timeframe estimation, and communicate these matters to the appropriate individuals and stakeholders
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, and decompose high-level information into details
  • Communicate status and potential project risks to the project stakeholders
  • Use and continually develop leadership and facilitation skills
  • Lead, supervise and support the engineering team. Contribute to their growth by sharing your knowledge and experiences

Requirements


  • 5+ years of related work experience in technical project or program management
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS software or related Geospatial technology
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently and set priorities and expectations
  • Experience managing IT Professionals 
  • Superior attention to detail and results oriented; demonstrated track record of proactively establishing and following through on commitments
  • Strong facilitation skills to elicit requirements from various personalities across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and to work within deadlines
  • Sophisticated organizational change management and business analysis skills
  • Proven track record of using an innovative approach to build processes and drive process improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including diplomacy, negotiating, reasoning, problem solving, and influence
  • Proficiency with project management tools, for example, Jira, GitHub, and or Confluence
  • Bachelor’s in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field, depending on position level (master’s preferred)
  • Existing work authorization for Australia

Recommended Qualifications


  • Work experience at commercial software product company
  • Background using Esri Field Apps technology
  • Masters degree in computer science, GIS, geography or related field
  • PMP certification
