Overview


Join our team to create, inspire, and influence user-centered designs at Esri and beyond. Your mission will be to develop Esri's design system. This is a great opportunity to collaborate closely with designers and developers and bring consistency across Esri’s ecosystem of products and services. You will be implementing and updating a consistent and cohesive component library for use in multiple JavaScript frameworks.
Esri’s design system is a collaborative design and development resources for creating consistent on-brand experiences. Our team is focused on individual responsibility and rapid development. As part of the team, you will be involved in creating and maintaining the JS framework agnostic web component library, which engineers use to design, implement, and develop software at Esri.

Responsibilities


  • Build and test web components using a framework-agnostic library (Stencil JS) that is semantic, accessible, durable, and easy-to-use
  • Experience writing tests and leveraging automated testing frameworks
  • Develop, modify, implement, and support software components anywhere in the software stack
  • Create component documentation for developers and help maintain the general documentation of the design system
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure user needs are balanced with technical requirements
  • Collaborate with designers and developers to elevate and iterate on our current components and patterns
  • Work in a cross-functional team to continuously strengthen collaboration, increase operational efficiencies, and communicate your decision-making rationale to the team and stakeholders
  • Educate and advocate for systems-based design/engineering
  • Stay up to date on the latest web component best practices, patterns, and technologies

Requirements


  • 5+ years of experience as a software developer
  • Experience writing modern JavaScript (i.e. ES6+), TypeScript
  • Portfolio required that demonstrates your development abilities and understanding, as well as how you think
  • Proven proclivity toward self-ownership and driving results beyond your expected duties for the good of the product and team
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work cross-functionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Naturally curious and passionate about learning new things. Driven by personal growth and commitment to the craft
  • Ability to leave your ego at the door, making way for data-driven empathy and a collaborative work ethic
  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related field

Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience with Stencil JS
  • Familiar with Angular, Ember, React
  • Experience building large scale design systems
  • Experience implementing web components into front-end frameworks and build environments
