As a software development intern, you’ll join the Esri R&D Center-Edinburgh and become a member of one of our agile development teams.


You will contribute to the latest release of ArcGIS Runtime, a product focused on building great APIs for developers who want to use Esri technology for native app development. Your work will range from designing, developing, and testing new features and functionality to communicating how to use our developer APIs and improving usability of our SDKs. You’ll learn about the industry-standard design patterns, development methodologies, and deployment models that we use. You’ll receive support and mentoring from the rest of your team as well as training and learning opportunities to help ensure a good start to a successful long-term career.


You’ll be working full time for 6 months to a year, with the duration flexible to suit the needs of your course.


  • Working towards a degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or a related field; students who are studying for a different subject and have demonstrated programming experience may also be considered
  • Strong development skills in Java, C++, Java, and/or Rust
  • Motivated and enthusiastic about software engineering
  • Excellent communication skills

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience with Kotlin, Swift, C# or Python
  • Interest in and experience of mapping applications, GIS, or Esri products
