Overview


We're seeking an experienced engineer to develop innovative geospatial data, visualization, and analysis capabilities for ArcGIS Hub. This person will work alongside the ArcGIS Hub CTO and other leads to define and deliver strategies for adding geospatial capabilities. As a Sr. Principal Engineer, you will participate in the full software development life cycle, from concept to deployment and play a key role in achieving our vision of leveraging geospatial data to drive meaningful civic engagement and data sharing.

Responsibilities


  • Product Development: Oversee the design, development, and deployment of web and mobile capabilities for geospatial data to enhance civic engagement. Work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and other stakeholders to align product development with user needs and business objectives.
  • Technical Guidance: Ensure the development of scalable, robust, and secure geospatial capabilities. Provide technical leadership and make key decisions in the choice of relevant technologies, architecture design, and data standards.
  • Leadership Support: Work alongside CTO and other Principals to support a team of product engineers, product designers, and software engineers. This includes providing mentorship, guidance, and support to facilitate their professional growth. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Project Management: Oversee project planning, scheduling, and delivery for geospatial capabilities. Manage resources and coordinate with other teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure high standards of software quality and reliability through comprehensive testing strategies, including unit tests, integration tests, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide updates on project progress, discuss challenges, and align on strategic decisions.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in geospatial technology and civic tech. Encourage innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Community Engagement and Thought Leadership: Regularly publish articles and support marketing and product management promoting key spatial capabilities for ArcGIS Hub and related products. Participate in community conferences and meetings promoting product capabilities and customer examples.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Collaborate with CTO, other leads, and HR to hire skilled staff, retain top talent, and maintain a healthy, diverse, and motivated team.

Requirements


  • 12+ years of experience leading product development and delivery of data-driven web applications
  • 12+ years of experience developing geospatial applications
  • Expertise in cartography, data visualization, spatial analysis, and GIS
  • Deep understanding of web-application software architectures and operations
  • Ability to guide teams through successful execution in fast-paced, iterable delivery
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Superb communication and presentation skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, GIS, or a related field

  • Expertise in software engineering practices and modern web service development
  • Understanding and hands-on familiarity with ArcGIS products
  • Industry-wide professional connections and relationships for building partnerships
  • Master's degree in computer science, GIS, or a related field

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

 

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $126,880.00 - $203,840.00.
