Overview


Use your GIS consulting and technical experience in the electric and gas utilities sector to support our users with the implementation of GIS solutions. This is a challenging opportunity for an accomplished GIS professional with proven experience to help utility organizations translate real-world needs into practical, state-of-the-art, GIS technology-driven solutions through the implementation of Esri’s enterprise GIS technology.

Responsibilities


  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to develop technical designs and specifications
  • Communicate the goals and progress of the team and projects to various audiences
  • Synthesize user requirements, industry needs, and competitive analysis for project implementations
  • Support clients in translating and implementing utility industry needs into GIS technology-driven solutions using Esri’s enterprise GIS technology
  • Develop software design for the implementation of custom applications and tools using Esri technology (ArcGIS Pro SDK, ArcObjects, Rest API, ArcPy, etc.)
  • Write installation and user documentation for custom applications and tools
  • Design and build prototype application configuration and customizations
  • Develop, test, package, and deploy application configuration and customization based on documented specifications
  • Define and execute software configuration and testing activities as part of project lifecycle

Requirements


  • 5+ years of demonstrated practical experience in utilities industry
  • Experience with REST API, JavaScript, Python, Mobile (QT, .NET), WPF (Pro SDK)
  • Experience with relational database (RDBMS) such as Oracle or SQL Server and data models such as Pipeline Open Data Standards (PODS) or Utilities Pipeline Data Model (UPDM)
  • Advanced knowledge of Esri’s ArcGIS system and professional experience with its practical applications in the utilities industry, including the ability to:
    • Develop ArcGIS Pro extensions and configurations using the ArcGIS Pro SDK
    • Develop Python scripts using ArcPy, including scripts to run as standalone scripts to automate processes, or as custom geoprocessing tools
  • Proven ability to balance technical expertise while managing client relationships and expectations
  • Domain expertise on developing and/or maintaining GIS pipeline asset data, integrity management, and utility centric operations 
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills and ability to propose solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work on multiple activities/projects simultaneously
  • Bachelor’s or master's in software engineering, CIS, GIS, or related geoscience field, depending on position level

Recommended Qualifications


  • Ability to design solutions and develop apps
  • Core GIS development and data manipulation
  • Project management or planning experience on project teams
  • Knowledge of linear referencing systems (LRS) and familiarity with pipeline stationing
  • Advanced GIS experience in mapping, geodata management, or geoprocessing projects
  • Experience with desktop, client/server, cloud, and web applications and architectures
  • Technical writing/documentation experience
