Overview


Come join our team to create, inspire, and influence user-centered designs at Esri and beyond. Your mission will be to develop Esri's design system. This is a great opportunity to collaborate closely with designers and developers and bring consistency across Esri’s ecosystem of products and services. You will be implementing and updating a consistent and cohesive component library for use in multiple JavaScript frameworks and communicating changes to stakeholders.
Esri’s design system is a collaborative design and development resource for creating consistent on-brand experiences. Our team is small with a focus on individual responsibility and rapid development. As part of the team, you will be involved in creating and maintaining the JS framework agnostic web component library, which engineers use to design, implement, and develop software at Esri.

Responsibilities


  • Build and test cross-platform web components using a framework-agnostic library that is semantic, accessible, durable, and easy to use
  • Create component documentation for developers and help manage the general documentation of the design system
  • Occasionally step in DevOps to ensure components can be successfully released and consumed by developers
  • Gather requirements and synthesize them into tasks that you can take action on
  • Stay up to date on the latest web component best practices, patterns, and technologies
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure user needs are balanced with technical requirements
  • Collaborate with designers to elevate and iterate on our current components and patterns
  • Work in a cross-functional team to continuously strengthen collaboration, increase operational efficiencies, and communicate your decision-making rationale to the team and stakeholders
  • Educate and advocate for systems-based design/engineering
  • Directly work on repository management, deployments, and releases for component libraries

Requirements


  • 3-5 years of experience developing for enterprise software, or similar experience
  • An online portfolio or GitHub profile that demonstrates your development abilities and how you think
  • High emotional intelligence; able to bring differing opinions and personalities together
  • Proven track record of evangelizing the need and value of consistency across products with user interface and development best practices
  • Proven proclivity toward self-ownership and driving results beyond your expected duties for the good of the product and team
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to work cross-functionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Naturally curious and passionate about learning new things
  • Driven by personal growth and commitment to the craft
  • Adaptable; able to leverage multidisciplinary practices and shift focus easily in a place that values nimble responses to new user and business expectations
  • Ability to leave your ego at the door, making way for data-driven empathy and a collaborative work ethic
  • Design-minded approach and a phenomenal eye for detail
  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related fields

Recommended Qualifications


  • Experience building large scale design systems
  • Experience building web components with StencilJS toolchain
  • Experience implementing web components into front-end frameworks and build environments
  • Working knowledge of accessibility and internationalization with a desire to learn more
