Marco Painho is a full time professor of Geographic Information Systems and Science at the Nova Information School (NOVA IMS) of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. He holds a Doctorate degree in Geography from the University of California Santa Barbara. His research interests include spatial decision support systems, geographic user generated content, information infrastructures, GIS education and distance learning. He has been involved in 100+ R&D and community extension projects including the coordination of two Masters programs in Africa. He coordinates the Master in Geographic Information Systems and Science (UNIGIS) and is the local coordinator of two graduate programs (one masters and one PhD) in cooperation with the University of Münster (DE) and Universitat Jaume I (ES).
