James MacDonald is a technical specialist at Hazen and Sawyer who deeply understands project-level workflows and user needs on infrastructure, facilities, and environmental projects of all sizes. He is a corporate technology application leader and is responsible for desktop, web, and mobile tools used company-wide. He is an effective communicator and is responsible for understanding project needs and working with technical specialists, IT, and technology partners to implement solutions that help make projects and clients successful.
He has been an active member of the computer-aided drafting (CAD), building information modeling (BIM), and geographic information system (GIS) communities in the United States since the early 1990s. He primarily worked in federal and local government and higher-education sectors.
For the past 20 years, MacDonald has led teams of technical and IT specialists within large architectural engineering (AE) organizations to implement innovative and effective solutions for design, construction, and management of public and higher-education infrastructure. MacDonald has a strong technical background in the use and deployment of design, data analytics, geospatial and business intelligence technologies, and he is passionate about seamless and simple integrations that take advantage of off-the-shelf tools and emerging technologies.
He has been actively involved in asset management projects throughout the US for the past 20 years and specializes in data management practices and technologies that empower effective planning and management of public infrastructure. For his entire career, MacDonald has focused on progressing and integrating CAD, BIM, GIS, and now business intelligence (BI) solutions that work with client information and operations IT systems.
