Exploring New Dimensions: West Chester University's 3D, Virtual, and Augmented Campus and Buildings

West Chester University has developed a 3D GIS database of campus, integrating AutoCAD drawings, SketchUp models, and Esri data products. 3D models of campus buildings were designed in ArcGIS Pro and Esri CityEngine, then ported to the ArcGIS 360 VR (Beta-testers), 3D web-scenes, Unreal Engine 4 gaming environment, and Microsoft HoloLens through Unity real-time engine. CAD drawings were used in ArcGIS Pro to create a Building Information Model (BIM) to demonstrate use for facilities management and emergency response. Campus trees were mapped, and growth projected using the iTrees forestry model. Drone imagery provides fly over, 3D mapping, and forest modeling. ArcGIS Online smart phone apps are used for data collection and field verification. Models, map layers,and analysis were published via the University's ArcGIS Hub platform, along with story maps and GIS web apps. This resource is being used for University planning, scenario generation, community engagement, teaching, and student research. It provides a solid platform for teaching, management, and engagement.
