About Lisa

Lisa Staehli studied geomatics engineering at ETH Zurich with an emphasis on GIS, cartography, and urban planning. Since a student, she has always had a strong interest in human-computer interaction in the context of urban environments. Her main academic focus was on 3D web-based visualizations for collaboration and citizen engagement as well as parametric geodesign for scenario planning. She started using Esri CityEngine as an intern in the planning department of the City of Zurich, where she configured and visualized scenarios for architectural competitions. In 2016, she started as an intern at the Esri R&D Center Zurich, where she developed C-Through, a prototype for interactive 3D urban planning analysis based on ArcGIS API for JavaScript. Currently, Staehli works as a software engineer at the Esri R&D Center Zurich in the ArcGIS Urban team focused on driving efforts around urban indicators.

Presentation abstract

Urban Design with CityEngine and ArcGIS Urban

ArcGIS Urban is a new solution system providing a range of tools to plan and build more sustainable cities and municipalities around the globe. It integrates seamlessly with CityEngine to support various urban planning workflows. The latest version of CityEngine offers new capabilities such as improved freehand drawing tools, which further improve the experience provided to urban designers, architects, and planners to quickly come up with feasible scenarios on redevelopment sites. Furthermore, see how to create well-informed planning scenarios using ArcGIS Urban, thanks to the design context as well as other available embedded data specific to a location. Learn more about the interplay between ArcGIS Urban and CityEngine and how it can improve and enrich urban design.
