Frank X. Avila—Director, Discovery & Assessments Office
Frank Avila leads the coordination and management of the discovery and assessment of commercial GEOINT solutions for the NSG. He previously served as the Senior Scientist for the Office of Sciences and Methodologies, Directorate of Analysis. He was promoted to the Senior Intelligence Service (SIS) in April 2010.
Avila has been with the U.S. Government as an Imagery Scientist for most of the last 30 years, joining the National Photographic Interpretation Center (NPIC) in 1987, focusing on the processing and exploitation of spectral imagery.
Currently, he is a member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), a Federal Committee sponsored by the Department of the Interior, and the Chairperson of the Landsat Advisory Group (LAG). He co-chairs an annual spectral conference, in addition to serving on the editorial board of the Geospatial Intelligence Review and GEOINT Science journals.
He resides in Virginia, along with his wife and daughter.
