Jim Aranguren has been the GIS Manager for the rural northern California County of Butte County for the past 20 years. He has successfully migrated GIS from a project-specific role in one department to a countywide centralized enterprise system that serves the entire organization and the public. During the Camp Fire event in November 2008, Butte County was affected by the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. Aranguren coordinated a team of working GIS professionals from multiple agencies and a variety of expertise to provide emergency personnel and the public with valuable information in the response and recovery efforts. Since then, he has presented to the California Geographic Information Association and is currently working to strengthen GIS preparedness for any potential upcoming emergency incidents.
