Shane Mooney is a 16-year veteran of the FDNY and has served on Incident Management Teams for 11 years. He is currently a Lieutenant assigned to Hook & Ladder 175 in Brooklyn and was previously assigned as a firefighter to Ladder 26 in Harlem.
Shane is currently the Planning Section Chief for the FDNY’s Type 2 All Hazard Incident Management team and is also one of their Commissioners to the Northeast Forest Fire Protection Compact as well as a member of the All Hazards Incident Management Team Association. In addition to his service with the FDNY IMT, Shane also spent two seasons as a member of the South West Type 1 Incident Management Team and deployed to three wild fire incidents with them.
Lt. Mooney is a qualified Special Operations Command Support Rescue Technician also holds a Hazardous Materials Technician 1 certification with the FDNY. He has numerous NWCG qualifications including Resources Unit Leader, Field Observer, Documentation Unit Leader, Situation Unit Leader and Type 2 Planning Section Chief. These qualifications have proven useful during his nearly 20 assignments around the country many of which were of national significance and included wildfires in the South West, blizzards & public health crisis in the North East, Super Storm Sandy in New York City and Hurricane Harvey in Houston Texas.
In addition to his company officer and incident management team duties, Shane has been instrumental in developing several courses including the FDNY / NYC Department of Buildings Rapid Structure Assessment Program and the All Hazards Field Reconnaissance course which focuses on the skills necessary for intelligence gathering and developing situational awareness at All Hazards Incidents in urban environments.
