In picture-book biographies, they offer valuable insights into individuals' lives, contributions, and occupations. Dr. McNair will showcase exemplary endpapers from acclaimed picture-books to illustrate these concepts.
Humans vs Asteroids: The Role of Ground-Based Radar in Planetary Defense
Dr. Marina Brozović
March 7, 2024 | 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.
Short of sending a spacecraft, ground-based radar observations have proven to be the most effective technique for studying asteroids and comets. To date, radars have observed over 1000 asteroids (both near-Earth and main belt) and 23 comets. They play a crucial role in characterizing these celestial bodies by directly displaying their size, shape, and surface characteristics.
During this forum, Dr. Marina Brozović, a radar scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, will highlight significant radar contributions to planetary science and space missions. She will also discuss the future prospects of radar facilities in advancing our understanding of the cosmos.
