Impact Observatory's AI-powered 3m Land Cover, powered by PlanetScope satellite imagery, enables a clear and up-to-date understanding of any place on Earth.
Order now.
Monitoring change in land use and land cover is essential to understand opportunities and risks for populations, infrastructure, and natural resources. Identifying these patterns of change using human expert inspection is time and labor-intensive and does not scale to the vast volume of public and commercial satellite imagery every day.
Data-driven insights - Monitor a growing range of land cover types for near-real-time insights into industrial, agricultural, and population patterns, leveraging world-leading PlanetScope and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery.
AI-powered automation - Subscribe to continuous trend analysis and automated alerting to critical changes and threats. Receive reports on where, when, and why changes are occurring with supporting information to confirm observations.
Near-real-time observations - Use the latest PlanetScope satellite imagery for the most up-to-date maps. Combine near-real-time data with decades of Earth observations from space to reveal long-term trends and threats.
Transparent pricing - Standard price per square kilometer up to 500 square kilometers, with tiered pricing available for larger orders.
How it's UsedUnderstand changes and threats to rivers, lakes, and watersheds that supply populations, agriculture and industry.
Monitor changes in roads, buildings, and built areas as populations and infrastructure grow and adapt for a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.
Track natural resources like forests and coastal wetlands that support livelihoods and provide solutions for access to fresh water and protection from coastal storms.
Our 3m Land Cover Classes
Water Channel Extent - Typical long-term footprint of water
Variable Water - Intermittent water or variable water conditions
Persistent Water - Permanent or sustained seasonal water
Dense Trees - Closely packed tree cover over 5m
Sparse Trees - Primarily tree cover mixed with other vegetation
Dense Rangeland - Closely packed woody vegetation under 5m
Sparse Rangeland - Mix of grasses, herbaceous vegetation and/or dispersed short woody scrubs
Flooded Vegetation - Vegetation with obvious intermixing of water
Inactive Crops - Fallow or otherwise inactive fields, sometimes mixed with small infrastructure in close proximity of active crops
Active Crops - Actively growing crops, irrigated pastures, and other vegetation actively managed by humans
Bare Ground - Areas of rock or soil with sparse to no vegetation
Snow/Ice - Large areas of persistent snow or ice
Mixed Vegetation - Mixed types of vegetation, primarily in the vicinity of human structures and settlement
Building - Completely impervious artificial surface built up from the ground with no vegetation. Includes individual building footprints, blocks of touching buildings with no vegetation between or within them, and other large metallic, wooden, or concrete constructions.
Road - Paved surfaces created by humans for transportation, does not include dirt roads
Other Built - Unidentified impervious surface in relation to buildings/roads
