Overview
The Fique Seguro Campinas application shows the frequency of police reports, by street, in the municipality of Campinas, SP, Brazil, between the months of January 2022 and November 2024. Specifically, it shows the total number of thefts or robberies of cell phones, thefts or robberies of vehicles, crimes of other nature and deaths by police interventions. By clicking on a street, the user can identify the number of police reports, by category. The user's location is shown, in real time on the map, as long as the permissions to access the device's location are granted by the user. The app was developed by Fifth Level Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento em SIG. The application was not developed by the government of the State of São Paulo or on behalf of it. However, it uses public data available on the transparency website of the Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo (SSP SP) https://www.ssp.sp.gov.br/estatistica/consultas. For the development of the application, 22 files were downloaded from the SSP SP website, at the above address, on March 28, 2024 and five other files were downloaded, from the same website, on January 13, 2025. The files contain data on police reports (B.O.) recorded between January 2013 and November 2024. The original records are public and available in Excel format. Inaccuracies in the original data (their locations, addresses, numbers, dates and other attributes of the B.O.) are the responsibility of SSP SP. We spatialized the original records of the B.O. and assigned them to the streets of the Open Street Map, located at a maximum distance of five meters. The OpenStreetMap database as well as individual contents of the same database are available under the Open Database License (https://www.openstreetmap.org). The methodology, described above, is replicable. This means that when the same data and the same method are used, different people must arrive at the same results. Likewise, the frequency of police reports per street, shown in the application, is verifiable based on the original data. The Fique Seguro Campinas application shows streets with 16 or more crime records. Criminal data are updated every four months, in the app, depending on the release of data by the SPP. The app´s full dataset is available in the ArcGIS Marketplace EPN 5th Level - Frequência de ocorrências policiais por logradouro - Police reports by street in São Paulo.
