Overview
The dataset contains the geolocation of industrial sites contaminated in Italy by perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a family of ultratoxic compounds used in industrial processes for a multitude of products and applications. These substances are resistant to major natural degradation processes thanks to the presence of very strong bonds between fluorine and carbon atoms. PFAS are mobile substances, as well as persistent and toxic, and the combination of these characteristics makes them dangerous, not only for human health, but also for the environment in which they remain for hundreds of years.
