Overview
The Power Event Notification System (PENS) Provides the most comprehensive, independent, observational view of the power distribution grid. We partner with communication companies to extract power data from primary aggregation points, and deliver it to our customers via low latency, private, and secure fiber networks.
With PENS Assets, subscribers can link their assets to Gridmetrics data to get real-time power intelligence that can be integrated into situational awareness platforms and that can provide visibility into potential power outages targeting those specific assets.
Outages are visualized using the US National Grid (USNG) 1 km x 1 km cells. Power outages affecting the USNG cell of the monitored asset or any of the 8 neighboring USNG cells are visualized as part of PENS Assets.
In this free trial, PENS Assets is used to monitor assisted living facilities (as provided by HIFLD open data). Outages that may affect facilities are categorized as outlying, peripheral or central. These categories help consumers of this trial understand the direction, potential impact and likelihood of a power outage affecting a facility.
PENS Assets can be configured to monitor your assets today. Pricing begins at $1 per asset per month. Please visit Gridmetrics.io or contact info@gridmetrics.io for more information or a price quote for your specific assets.
Layers included in the PENS Assets free trial:
- PENS Assets Zoomed Out - provides zoomed out locations for power outages that may affect assisted living facilities.
- PENS Assets Zoomed In - provides categorized power outages, indicating whether the outage directly or tangentially affects an assisted living facility.
- PENS Coverage - provides the USNG 1km x 1km grid cells representing the coverage
footprint for the ~300,000 power sensors. The cells are categorized by
their density of sensors, ranging from 1 to 20+ per cell.
- HIFLD Assisted Living Facilities
NOTE: PENS is built on a proprietary network of nearly 325,000 sensors
deep in the power distribution grid. PENS provides an independent,
observational view of the state of power beyond the substation. PENS
compliments existing power outage information. Power utilities are the
authoritative source for power status.
