This data includes broad segmentation categories such as hospital type (acute care, psychiatric and rehabilitation) as well as number of beds, physicians, and providers. Additional specialty attribution includes hospitals with specialties in areas such as pediatrics, long-term acute care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, etc.
All MCH hospitals have ownership information, where available.
While many hospital databases are single sourced, MCH’s hospital file is multi-sourced from state and federal sources and takes advantage of a variety of compilations methods to update the data. This data is released in varying frequencies, which means continual updates occur throughout the year.
Purchasing this data through the Esri Marketplace enables you to have access to the monthly updates of the Hospital Data. After one year the updates will cease and you will have to purchase another annual license to receive monthly updates.
Hospitals are institutions in which sick or injured persons are given medical or surgical treatment. A hospital provides 24-hour, in-patient medical or surgical services to the sick or injured. While there are relatively few hospitals (approximately 7,400), they have a huge impact on the economy.
According to an American Hospital Association report, hospitals employ more than 5.7 million people and purchase approximately $852 billion in goods and services from other businesses. This substantial amount of purchasing power creates a ripple effect, supporting more than $2.8 trillion in US economic activity.
Although MCH takes pride in the completeness and accuracy of the data offered, the data should not be considered a definitive statement on the presence or absence of an organization within a community.
Use of this data is restricted under the terms of the MCH Data License Agreement.

“MCH Strategic Data works with the CDC Foundation and Esri to relaunch its COVID-19 map”
PRESS RELEASE article: (5/13/21)
When the COVID-19 pandemic began to impact schools in the United States, MCH partnered with Esri, the global market leader in geographic information systems, to provide a free data resource for anyone interested in the rapid changes and impact of COVID-19 on school reopening plans and operations at the school district level. This resource, first launched in August 2020, quickly became a valuable tool utilized by hundreds of stakeholders nationwide, including researchers at universities such as Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and MIT; governmental agencies such as Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and The U.S. Department of Education; and was featured nationally in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and Forbes.
Now MCH is working with Bay Park Data Solutions (an Esri Silver Business partner) to provide hospital data.
