ICESat-2 Space-Based Laser Bathymetry
TCarta developed a unique approach to programmatically access and process ICESat-2 ATL03 geolocated photon data to produce shallow bathymetric depths around the globe. The ICESat-2, space-based laser bathymetry points provide a cohesive, worldwide dataset which has been successfully utilized by a deep learning classification method to extract bathymetry measurements, TCarta provides these depth measurements and ground truth data for coastal elevation profiling, and calibration/validation of SDB algorithms. TCarta has conducted extensive global evaluation of ICESat-2 bathymetry with aerial LiDAR surveys to validate the ICESat-2 depths. Results of these trials are available upon request.
All ATL03 photons within the area are processed and classified as water surface or bathymetry. All bathymetry points are corrected for refraction. Areas of turbidity are verified using Sentinel 2 imagery if available. All valid bathymetry points are provided though not all beam tracks contain bathymetry data and are dependent on local water conditions at the time of data capture.
A classified hydrographic vector product is produced from ICESat ATL03 geolocated photon product. Production unit is 1 MGRS 100kmx100km tile extent. All tracks with potential for shallow water bathymetry are examined and processed.

Data is edited for noise and derived depths are referenced to multiple datums including MSL, LAT, and WGS84. Data can be referenced to other datums including MLLW and NAVD88, upon request. Adherence to IHO Standards for Hydrographic Surveying (S-44) 6th Ed
Cost Structure & Delivery Timeframes
Products are offered on a fixed price basis with square kilometers or the Military Grid Reference System as the unit price depending on the product. AOI sizes are calculated by total potential area where SDB is possible as determined by water depths (i.e. all area within 0-20m depth extent is quoted price and area of task order interrogation). Delivered extent of SDB coverage will vary from this extent based on suitability of water conditions in the imagery available.
Pricing is nominally based on area of water and potential SDB coverage within an Area of Interest extent and based on predicted water depths within 0-20m, not on actual area produced. No charges are applied for land pixels along simple mainland coastlines but these areas will be included for coastal islands and rugged coastline where extra attention is required.
