Step 1: Start with a Creator user type

ArcGIS Online is required to use ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online. ArcGIS Online is licensed by purchasing a Creator user type. User types provide a flexible way to license the capabilities and apps your users need. The Creator user type provides a user everything they need to get started with ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online. If you have unused Creator or GIS Professional user type licenses, you can skip to step two.

Step 2: Add ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online adds imagery hosting, streaming, and analysis capabilities to the Creator or GIS Professional user type.

Additional credits

Credits are the currency used in ArcGIS Online to purchase premium services including feature storage, analysis tools, and premium data. Credits are included with every ArcGIS Online subscription. Additional credits can be purchased and added to your subscription at any time.

What does "requires foundational user type" mean?

User types provide a flexible way for people to license the capabilities and apps they need to do their work in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.

Every subscription requires at least one foundational user type to activate and administer ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. Creator and GIS Professional are foundational user types.

All dependent user types (Viewer, Editor, and Mobile Worker) must be purchased with at least one foundational user type or added to an existing organization. Dependent user types rely on a foundational user type to activate and administer ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise.
